Stolen from Walking Around- Where the Sidewalk Begins

As the continued threats of a massive snow storm come in, I have continued to put off my homework for this week in the hopes that there will be no school on Tuesday through Friday. Rather I have been thinking about all of the things that I will get to do instead of sitting in three hour classes, like watching some of my favorite movies for the hundredth time.

Hopefully the food in the kitchen will last us through the storm and my roommates don't get sick of me as we will all be stuck in the same house for possibly days. Maybe we should prepare by going out and stocking up on our favorites, like trail mix and hot chocolate. At least the snow gives me every excuse to wear my favorite wool socks all day and recreate these perfect cold-weather outfits.

P.S.  The shellac is FINALLY off my nails, so expect more nail tutorials!

Belle of the Ball

Every girl dreams of going to a ball and wearing a beautiful gown with fabulous shoes and sparkling diamonds. My personal fantasy continues as I dance the night away with a dapper young man to the sounds of Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr. and Van Morrison. Tonight I think that my lifelong dream is finally going to come true... and I will be wearing one of these dresses.

Okay who am I kidding. My lifelong dream is not going to come true tonight. I am going to a party tonight, a fraternity date party that is. So rather than ball gowns and Harry Winston, I will be wearing a simple but very cute Alice & Trixie dress, with jewels by Forever 21. And rather than swaying to "Summer Wind", it is much more likely that we will be dancing to the classic tunes by Flo Rida, Katy Perry, and Wiz Khalifa (Yes, that's the guy that sings Black and Yellow).

At some point during the day I did forget that I was just going to a date party and found myself fretting over silly things like lip stain and chandelier earrings v. studs. As my best friend and I were frantically jewelry shopping for tonight, we had to get a grip and remember we were not going to a ball or even prom. It is the curse of having these fantasies about perfect evenings full of dancing and champagne! So here is tonight, a sure to be fun night, complete with a pumpkin magically turned charter bus.

Until next time.
I'll keep dreaming.

Beautiful Bedrooms

The perfect bedroom for those lazy days.

For all the modern day Princesses out there.

This bedroom is my favorite... probably because it is really my room. Sorry shameless  plug.

I really do love my own bedroom so much, and I can't even take credit for myself because my mom redid the whole thing this summer while I was away. The soft blue was such a nice change from my previous room (tangerine walls and hot pink bedspread) which was fitting when I was 13. A friend once described my room as the perfect beach getaway room, which I can understand because of the soothing colors. We might not be anywhere close to the beach but I do use this room as a getaway when I have the chance to come home, like this weekend. I love coming here to read (right now I am reading Redeeming Love, again) and recently to blog. And while I am home, I am also going to take advantage of having a kitchen and work on one of my favorite recipes!

Until next time.
Sweet dreams.

Things I Love

There are so many things that make today such a great day, and it all started at about midnight when my roommates and I decided to forgo sleep for awhile and enjoy some classic, late night girl talk with a snack of cereal and chocolate milk. It goes without saying that morning came quick, and we all proceeded to hit the snooze button more than once. But nothing wakes me up better than a cup of coffee and bowl of hot oatmeal, especially when our room is freezing, like it was this morning (65 degrees!) So now I am done with class and ready for a full day of catching up on homework, running errands, and watching endless amounts of my boot legged Boy Meets World DVD's. (Awkward: these DVD's are recorded straight off a TV, so it's a major disappointment when you are watching and see the running news scroll along the bottom of the screen advertising for a brand new episode of Lizzie McGuire, only to realize that unfortunately there hasn't been a new episode since 2004. Talk about false advertisement.)

Here are some other things that make me happy!

I wouldn't mind finding This Little Monster in my closet.

Hot Pink and Leopard- is there anything more girly?

The new online magazine, Matchbook.

This perfect couple.

Oh, and not to mention the best news to women all over the world. Anthropologie's new Wedding Line to unveil February 14 (how perfect!) Unfortunately there are no pictures available yet, just the rotating ones seen here. Such a wonderful tease.

Until next time.
Be you, be loved.

Hello Spade!

I remember years ago when my sweet Dad gave my Mom her first ever Kate Spade purse. It was wonderful, black and classic. Okay maybe at age eight I didn't realize how wonderful it was, but looking back now, I wish I had. It probably wasn't until my mom's second Kate Spade piece, the cutest pink wallet, that I started to appreciate the wonderfulness that is Kate Spade.

So I have a thing for polka dots...

Just twirl.
My favorite thing about Ms. Spade is the simple words she finds inspiration from, like "twirl". I am a huge fan of her newest perfume, Twirl, and this necklace and perfect red lipstick make you want to do just what the title says, twirl.

Wear red lipstick and enjoy being a girl.

Until next time.

Spring Fling

Prepare yourself. Here comes the first of what is going to be an obnoxious amount of J.Crew blog posts.

Pretty in Pink gets revamped.

Even though this outfit might not be appropriate for January, when I saw that the temperature in Oklahoma was supposed to be close to 70 degrees on Friday, I immediately was ready for spring and the WHOLE spring 2011 collection from J. Crew

Please give me this teal romper and reserve me a beach chair in the Caymans.

This floor length sequin is perfect for... well I have no idea where I would ever wear this but it would look so good hanging in my closet.
Both of these outfits would be perfect for all my day dates in the Hamptons this March.
Until then.
Until Spring.

The Way We Were

Today I will be Carrie Bradshaw and blog a little about love. Not that I am an expert, but who is? After taking a cue from my favorite girls, the before mentioned Carrie and Lorelei Gilmore, I watched the ultimate chick-flick, The Way We Were. It goes without saying that I loved the movie and wiped away tears when no one was watching. Who doesn't love some Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford (swoon)
K-k-katie, the ultimate complicated girl and Hubble, the perfect boy. The soul mates who can't make it work.

The movie follows the years of love and passion between Katie and Hubble. Although these two opposites love each other so much they don't they end up together (oops sorry I just ruined the ending) The whole movie you are led to believe that despite all their differences and issues, love will conquer all. And yet, it doesn't, because mister perfect hair and beautiful face cannot handle how complicated Katie truly is.

Katie: I don't have the right style for you do I?
Hubble: No you don't have the right style.
Katie: I'll change.
Hubble: No, don't change. You're your own girl, you have your own style.
Katie: But then I won't have you. Why can't I have you?

"You'll never find anyone as good for you as I am, to believe in you as much as I do or love you as much"

Katie is a lover. Katie is a complicated mess. An outspoken, curly haired mess who wears her heart on her sleeve. As girls we all have a little (or a lot) of Katie in us. So love. Embrace your curly hair and say what you want. Be complicated and don't ever change for anyone. Because we are fabulous.

Above all else, be classy. At the end of the movie when Katie sees the love of her life with his new, simple girl, she leaves him with five words.
"You're girl is lovely, Hubble"

Until next time.
Your K-k-katie

The first of many

I think I have been avoiding making a blog for so long because this first post scares me to pieces. What does this introductory post say about me and my blog? So rather than clouding this first post with rambling words, I will introduce my thoughts through pictures. A picture is worth one thousand words, and I have many.

Because everyone needs someone to stand by them and inspire them.

Here are the women that inspire me daily with their blogs. I am going to try to be original but these girls are too lovely not to steal from every once and awhile.

Jane from Sea of Shoes
My first blog obsession.
Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere whose blog is sometimes the only reason I get out of bed in the morning.
Her mix between fashion, decor, and food is too perfect for my life.

Sydney from The Daybook who I recently discovered. She has the best hair and embraces awkwardness daily.

Until next time.
Until tomorrow.
