Things I Love

Things I Love Thursday! As much as I love being home (I got to spend all day yesterday catching up with sweet high school friends, newly engaged friends, and my best friend who now has very short hair!) I am missing the feel of Washington. Waking up each morning, knowing that I was going to get to experience things I had never seen before is something special.
One very special place in Washington that I especially loved was Georgetown. We ended up visiting this neighborhood three days out of the five that we were there and I fell in love with the old buildings and shops on Wisconsin Ave. and M St.
There are no words... oh wait I can think of one. SWOON.
This Anthropologie looks tiny but it just an illusion because it's really huge!

At the Georgetown cupcake lab. We couldn't get close enough to the actual store to get a decent picture because of the massive line. I love cupcakes a lot but am not always willing or patient enough to wait in a two-hour line.

Rather, we found (through recommendation) a different cupcake shop in Georgetown called Baked and Wired that had an amazing selection of baked goods. Not only a self-serve cookie bar, but treats like the Honey Badger brownie and Apple hand pies.
The cupcakes were amazing, Unporked Elvis, Lemon Blueberry, German Chocolate, Strawberry..., I can't stop thinking about how wonderful they were.

I love Georgetown.

Until next time.
Love each new experience.

Street Style

From our first moments in D.C. I knew that this vacation was going to provide me with blogging material for at least a week. If I included all the recipes I am going to try to recreate then I could keep these D.C. posts going to two to three weeks.

As we walked to dinner the first night I couldn't help but notice the great style that I kept passing on the streets. (Almost) everyone looked polished, classy, and yet up to date on current styles. I was thoroughly impressed, especially after learning that D.C. did not rank on GQ's 40 Worst-Dressed Cities in America (neither did any city in my state, but Brooklyn and Manhattan came in at #11 and #5 respectfully, sorry big sis...) and started basing my outfits off things I had seen on the streets. I even tried to sneakily snap some iPhone shots on the street of innocent passerby's but an old (unfashionable) man would undoubtably step in front of my lens at the last minute everytime. No thank you, your suit with sweat stains is not "too sweet to be shared" but thank you for trying.
My one semi-valid attempt at a street shot.
Just imagine a great lace top, cut-off jean shorts, Longchamp bag, iced coffee.
D. C. chic.
So while we are waiting for my actual D.C. style post (I just got off the airplane, give me time) pictures of my fashionable sisters will have to do. Our outfit choices were determined solely by the humidity and the distance we were walking to dinner that night. The joy of us all being in the same zip code is sharing clothes again.

Until next time.
Happy to be in one of the NOT "40 worst-dressed" city that I call home.

D.C. Happenings

It has been a great five days in the nations capital and I must say that it has been so much fun, but my body is feeling it. I was not anticipating all the walking that we would be doing and now I am wishing that I had packed more shoes that were acceptable for walking 5+ miles a day all over one of my favorite cities in America.

View from the War World II Memorial

Dressing room shot in Secondi, the only consignment shop I have ever been in that doesn't smell like a consignment shop. We're talking Missoni and Diane von Furstenberg dresses, Tory Burch and Theory blouses, and plenty of J. Crew.

A sweet birthday party at a park on our walk back to our hotel after a day in Georgetown.

The pool at our hotel was the coolest pool I have ever seen. Set on the second floor, in between apartment buildings covered in ivy. Not a lot of sun could reach us in the late afternoon but it made for a perfect place to read a book (currently reading The Hunger Games).

Little sis at our favorite book store, that also happens to be our favorite breakfast spot, that also happens to be my favorite place to catch up with a girlfriend at night. I am going to miss Kramer Books.

This whole vacation I have been thinking two things,
1. I am so proud to be an American
2. Why did Mary-Kate and Ashley never make a movie in D.C.? They could have traveled all over the different neighborhoods, finding the cutest boys, and ultimately ended up in the air ducts at the Capitol. I smell a hit! My little sister and I did get mistaken for twins so really we should have just made our own movie since MK&A are kind of out of their "we'll solve any crime by dinner time" stage of life.

Until next time.
I am the cute one, she's just my sister.

P.S. so many more D.C. pictures to come!

Getaway Girl

It's about that time of year again when the whole family takes a vacation solely to eat good food in other cities. This summer we are going to Washington D.C. and I could not be more excited. Not only for the incredible restaurants I know my dad has made reservations at after many hours of  researching and countless recommendations but also because I feel like D.C. is one of the only places on earth I will allow myself to be a tacky tourist and take a million pictures. I can't wait to visit the museums, monuments and of course the shopping.

Well rather than going through my own closet (aka clothes rack) and pulling things to put in my suitcase, I decided it would be so much more fun to pack a virtual suitcase on Anthropologie's website. Because who wouldn't want to fantasize about wearing clothes in the nations capital that they don't actually own.

For the first, long day of bus tours. Planning on hopping off and starting our own tour whenever we feel necessary or get tired of the tour guides terrible jokes.

Monument tour day! Some of my choices. Keeping it classy in red and white. Patriotic but not too much. Or is it too much?

Dinner outfit. My dad actually mentioned to my mom and I that we probably could wear the same outfit to dinner a couple of nights... Dad... I am sorry for laughing loudly in your face.

Georgetown.
As excited as I am about seeing all the sights I just really want to go spend as much time walking around and exploring Georgetown. And I guess maybe if we have time and randomly feel like stopping at Georgetown Cupcake we might, possibly...
Please, it is the main reason we are making this trip.

Dinner again. Rocking a looser dress tonight because we went to Georgetown Cupcakes and when you fly halfway across the country for a cupcake you don't just get one.

Until next time.
My virtual suitcase is Louis Vuitton
