The Women We Learn From

In the last days we lost two women who have paved the way for so many. Although Margaret Thatcher and Lilly Pulitzer changed the world in vastly different ways, they were both women who will be missed for their innovation.

Margaret Thatcher, Britain's first and only woman Prime Minister, who just years before being elected claimed that Britain would never have a women Prime Minister in her life time. She was known as the "Iron Lady" for her unwavering conservative politics.

Lilly Pulitzer, the designer who is known for mix of hot pink and green patterns, as well as dressing Jackie Kennedy. Lilly began her fashion adventure after designing bright, patterned dresses to hide the stains from her original economic venture, a juice stand.

Happy Hump Day

Wednesday mornings make me happy-- I have made it to the middle of the week and the weekend is now officially in view, and I am very much looking forward to this weekend.

To get you through today and the rest of the week, I am compiled some fun and entirely random links and lovelies.

Let's start with a story--
About a week ago I realized that I had lost something that is quite valuable to me. It is small and shiny and fits on the middle finger of my right hand. I am quite notorious for losing jewelry and I don't want this trend to continue as I grow up. I set out to find my missing ring, looking in all the normal places, car, my carpet, laundry basket to come up empty handed. Then I realized I was forgetting the most obvious place, which was the bottom of all the purses and bags I had carried in the last year. Sure enough, in the deepest crevice of a bag was my tiny ring.
The story and adventure could end there, but I chose to endure this mission and dig through every purse I own.

Nine purses later and the above is what I had recovered.
$2.16 which will by me a cup of coffee this week and therefore a total jackpot
8 writing utensils, including two of my favorite pens
5 lip balms
2 yoga headbands
2 pins (one reading "entertain me, I'm bored"... what on earth)
1 notepad
26 gum wrappers
14 receipts
11 bobby pins (the ultimate!)
1 root beer candy

Things I Love

Let's start out with things that I hate.
Taking a 3 day vacation from blogs all together.
It felt like I had lost contact with some of my closest friends, which is kind of sad and maybe a clue that I spend too much time browsing blogs... nah.
Well this morning I finally got to grab some coffee and "catch up with old friends" and I found some lovely things that  I just have to share, because some things in life are too sweet not to be shared.

A sweet and beautiful blogger "friend" of mine got to model for Ariel Gordon jewelry and their 2011 Lookbook. This jewelry is all hand made and a favorite amongst some of my other "friends" like Drew Barrymore, Eva Longoria, and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Ariel Gordon's pieces are modern and dainty and perfect for day-to-day wearing while also making a statement, which is really my goal in life.

Here are some of my absolute favorites.

Also when spending an undisclosed amount of time catching up on my daily blog reads I came across some great limited edition, recycled clutches from a store on Etsy.
I Am a Greedy Girl featured these great and unique bags from Scout and Catalogue.
I had a hard time deciding but I finally made up my mind and ordered the cream lace clutch.
To arrive sometime next week, already swooning.

Okay last thing I love, I promise.
But meet Kendi from Kendi Everyday who is super fashionable while not breaking the bank. Most of her outfits feature clothes from Gap, Banana Republic, Payless, and Target. I have full faith that this girl could even make Sooner Fashion Mall seem as fashionable as Milan.
That might be a little exaggeration... but check her out.

Straight sass.

Until next time.
Love everything. I know I am.

Quote of the Day

More like "Quote of my Life"

“The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee. Short, tall, light, dark, caf, decaf, low-fat, non-fat, etc. So people who don’t know what the heck they’re doing or who on earth they are can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino.”

For a friend...

and all my friends, and maybe for  me too.

everything changes & it’s exciting & lovely & such an alluring part of life. everything happens for some reason. everything will work out & it will be such a beautiful ending to an adventurous tale. when things feel awful it’s hard to see the outcome. it’s hard to stay positive & stretch our limbs to the sky each day. people leave, we leave, & it’s always hard because you think: why didn’t they love me? what did i do wrong? do they care? what about me? & you let those questions, each question, hollow you out a little more until your body is the heaviest hollow there could be. you can feel the question, each question, ache in different parts. why didn’t they love me, how could they love someone more? it aches in your belly, keeps you from eating. what did i do wrong? your constant retelling of every moment spent together, analyzing, it aches your whole skull. do they care? the thought that they don’t care, that they don’t think about your needs or worries or wants, well that aches in all the limbs. these aches make us weak, they keep us in bed fearing sleep. they keep us from telephones, from computers, from friends. because ‘why did they leave, why did they leave me?’ we are self centered by nature.people exist in our lives because they are meant to. each person, lovely or awful. they exist for exactly the amount of time they should. they teach us things. little things, extraordinary things about ourselves, our lives, the everything around us. that doesn’t make it easier to say good bye. it doesn’t make it easier to think that they have finished their task, made you stronger, & we must be strong. we must be strong. you exist,&it is extraordinary.

Until next time.

Top Week

I think that it is safe to say that this week has been exceptionally good, and for really no specific reason. And really it shouldn't have been a good week seeing as that I had to go to all my classes for the first time in a month (thank you snow and the flu) and I had two tests. It was a sleep deprived week to say the least and the weather has been more bipolar than usual.

I think a big part of the greatness of this week was the success that I had at J. Crew yesterday. Something about that store just adds a whole new level of happiness to my life, and it didn't hurt that I was able to experience it with my mom and little sister. I love when we all go together because I feel like we take over the dressing rooms like they do in the movie "Because I Said So". We all grab about twenty items, share and swap them and all end up with epic finds. Like this...

I am the proudest owner of this incredible trench. Couldn't be happier after lusting over this spring staple for  months.

I just found this amazing blog called My Closet in Sketches, where the talented artist hand illustrates her outfits. If I did that you can imagine my sketch would look like my favorite pair of Gap Jeans (that are stretched out to the extreme) with an XXL University of Oklahoma t-shirt from Salvation Army, an oversized black Patagonia and my oldest pair of chestnut Uggs. Now you understand why I didn't take the time to even attempt to draw this outfit...

I leave you with these quotes for the weekend.

Expecting the greatest weekend after the greatest week.
